The Therapy Team
Physical Therapists (PT) first perform a comprehensive evaluation which includes, but is not limited to, neuromuscular function assessments, muscle testing and examination of a patient’s gait, aerobic capacity, circulation, and skin integrity. A significant focus of your physical therapy treatment plan will be improving your mobility skills. Exercises to increase balance, restore coordination, and increase endurance will be provided.
Occupational Therapists (OT) address the needs of individuals who are experiencing functional limitations. Based on the results of a comprehensive initial evaluation, the occupational therapy treatment plan will address the patient’s performance of the daily living skills—dressing, bathing, home management, etc. Problems with strength, joint range of motion, muscle tone, sensory and perceptual awareness, or cognitive function will also be addressed. The OT will provide adaptive equipment (such as splints), and recommend changes in a patient’s living environment to remove barriers and promote safety.
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) provide evaluation and treatment programs designed to meet your needs related to speech, language, hearing, cognitive impairment, and swallowing. Disorders result from conditions such as stroke, head injury, neurological or neuromuscular diseases, viral infections, or the aging process. Treatment focuses on improving speech/ language expression and comprehension, safe swallowing function, and oral motor skills for more accurate speech production.
